Description
Ammikallu is a south-Indian kitchen essential that is used for grinding wet masalas. Spices are placed on the flat and thick stone and then ground with an oval stone in a forward and backward motion. Everything from your quintessential Coriander thogayal to fresh masala for Arachuvitta Sambar attains a much more intense flavor profile when ground the old-school way using the entrusted stone.
.As you pass on the kal from one generation to another, you can use the hand tool to make new grooves on the kallu. Better yet, bring it to us, and we’ll have our rural artisans re-groove it for you. They have, after all, been doing this for many, many generations.
