Jamakaalam Surukku Pai (Drawstring Bag)

Jamakaalam comes with such an enriching history in Southern India. They are made using coarse cotton threads and make great carpets and even warm blankets in winter. When there is an auspicious occasion set to happen at home, people often throw open the humble Jamakaalam for relatives in huge numbers to sleep on.

We’ve repurposed the colourful Jamakaalam into a cute Surukku Pai aka Drawstring Bag. These Drawstring bags make beautiful return gifts and they can be used to store everything from Vethala Paakku (Betelnut and Betel Leaves) to accessories earrings, scrunchies, necklaces etc.
